It’s a Lot!!

I've always thought forgetting about my troubles will help me live a much happier life, but while that is true, it only gives long-term temporary relief.

Cos sometimes, with one little trigger, memories come flooding in and those thoughts you thought you had waved off, appear right in front of you and you will begin to consider them. You'll think deeply about them, and find a connection between them and the current reason for your gloominess even.

As much as you might try to put it off, you'll blame God. You'll question if he even loves you to begin with, have you been cursed, is this karma? These are some of the thoughts that will occupy your head when you hit that problem that you just can't wave off.

I don't know about you, but "forgetting" doesn't seem like a remedy after all.

I've got a number of things I thought I had forgotten, but each time I get into a phase like the one I'm in, I can't help but nurse the resurrection of those thoughts.

So…how do we heal then? How do we live happily without having to think so much about our problems?

  • Acceptance

First, I'd like you to understand that there ain't no such thing as happiness. It's just an abstract word coined by Waltz to fit in his many Disney displays and make children feel like there's more to this life than eating candies and playing in the merry-go-round.

When you're an adult, you begin to understand why Cinderella's stepmom wanted her at home while she and her kids went to the ball, or why Snow White's stepmom wanted to be the fairest of them all. Hell, you'll understand why Maleficent cursed the princess or the witch the beast.

The villains you grew up knowing will become the victims of the story.

And words like happiness become a blur in your lexicon.

But words like opportunity, setbacks, oppression, depression, frustration, patience, hope, oh they become your besties.

So yeah, like a therapist would tell you, "the first step to healing is acceptance".

Perhaps when I’ve accepted, I’ll let you know what the next step is.
