Moonlit Melancholy

Pictorial representation of the poem by author.

Tonight I reminisce
My soul stands ancient
As when Dolly sang about her 'Coat of Many Colours'
And Boney M about 'Going Back West'

Tonight I find more meaning
to every word uttered in a song
I listen more dearly than ever
As the tempo of the piano and electric guitar raises
Adding melody to the chirping of birds Yanni had recorded years ago

Tonight I lay sleepless in bed
Waiting to hear 'Hurricane' play on my phone
If you'd call like you did months before
I know I'll be disappointed
But I wait still like an old lover would.

Tonight I drift against my wish
My dreams are a restless pursuit
A tale with no tail
Cos my eyes wouldn't keep shut any longer
If the one view it desires -your face-
it can't see.
