MY FITNESS JOURNEY SO FAR

I suppose it’s only right that I begin here since it’s been a minute since I last dropped an article.

In some of my previous articles, I had mentioned some tips that were intended as the “healthy way to lose weight”, one of which was Don’t diet!

As much as I’d hate to admit that I was wrong and that tip didn’t work, even for me, and although the road to fitness isn’t a one-way street for everybody, there are still basics that can help in this journey.

And I know it hurts to hear this, but one of the basics to weight loss, as I have come to learn in my fitness journey so far, is that dieting gets you off at least 60% of your excess weight.

That’s right!

And humility gets you off 20% and consistent exercising does the rest.

“Humility?” you’re probably wondering now.

Don’t worry, it’s not as ridiculous as it sounds. Keep reading, and you’ll get it.

WHEN I STARTED OFF MY FITNESS JOURNEY

It was sometime in April this year, although when I say ‘started off’ I mean ‘re-started off’.

Yes, I’ve been on and off a lot, especially last year. Matter of fact, I felt a lesser need to exercise because I was lucky enough to hit a point in my fitness journey, where I felt comfortable in my body.

I would wear a bodycon dress and not worry about my pot belly, because it wasn’t there at the time.

So I relaxed, and the weight accumulated back on. It was slow, but when it happened, I felt it. Tucking my tummy became difficult and when I started exercising, it kept feeling like my belly fat just wasn’t moving.

I ate garlic, drank detox water, and even ate a lot of fibers to help me purge (because fibers promote bowel movements), yet every morning I looked in the mirror, I said to myself “you’re getting there. Give it some time” while circling my hand on my tummy, like I was 4 months pregnant (maybe a bit exaggerated).

Truth is, 3 months later, I wasn’t ‘there’. You know why?

I was doing a lot of things wrongly, and being that I had once hit that point of comfort in my fitness journey, I felt like I knew all there is to know and I refused to accept that I was not on the right track.

I was eating more than what I was burning, I wasn’t getting a lot of movements, I didn’t stick to a routine long enough, and my salt intake was high.

Instead of accepting this fact and trying to advance, I kept giving myself the little pep talk about “getting there”.

Not until sometime in August did I start noticing some changes in the size of my tummy.

You know why?

I stuck to a routine long enough (about 4 weeks), I started taking regular morning walks (added a mile each day), decreased my salt intake, and took on a diet plan that had me eating only twice a day (precisely interminent fasting).

I believe now you must have made out how humility gets you off 20% of your excess weight.

It's okay to be confident in what you know, but always be ready to make room for advancement. The world isn’t static.

WHERE I AM ON MY FITNESS JOURNEY

I wish I could tell you what I weigh currently, but I can’t because I lack a weighing scale, but I can tell you that before now, my waist size was somewhere around 36, and currently, I’m hitting a 34.

I have stuck to an exercise routine for about 4 weeks or more now, with increased intensity each day, although I will be switching to a new exercise routine for the month ahead.

I have more protein in most of my meals, and almost not a day passes without my eating fruits, my favorite is cucumber and nuts. The water content of cucumber is just what your body needs to stay refreshed, and the nuts will make you feel satiated, so you don’t have to feel hungry 5 minutes after eating them. Plus, they’re good for bowel movements.

I eat twice a day, with little salt intake, and I make certain that no matter how busy my day turns out, I get at least a 30 minutes walk each day.

It doesn’t matter your body type. If you’re interested in losing some weight, following these tips I have come to learn in the course of my fitness journey, will get you down the scale in time for Christmas.
