The Mania Of Ghosting
Have you seen the movie 'Ghosted'?
The one where Chris Evans had to leave his home country for the first time, in search of a woman, Ana de Armas, whom he hit it off with after selling her a flower?
Yeah, that movie.
Do you recall why she ghosted him?
It was because of her job. She was some type of spy and given the nature of that job, she couldn't let herself get romantically involved with anyone, else she'd be putting them at risk of being endangered.
Cool movie, right?
I didn't think so too.
Anyway…
There are two social media terms used to describe a fallout with a friend or an acquaintance;
Blocked
Ghosted
Personally, I think I'd prefer being blocked rather than ghosted.
With being blocked, it's definite. You know for sure "Oh this person no longer wants to have anything to do with me".
Because you'll seize seeing their profile picture, and you'll never get a double tick when you send them a text until they unblock you.
But with ghosting…man that allows for a whole lot of possibilities, so you might or might not be sure where you stand with that person.
They could decide to block you..or not, and then you'll see that your text got delivered but no reply, you'll call, it'll go through, but they wouldn't pick, hell, sometimes you'll see them online and yet you won't be able to reach them.
You see why ghosting is maniac?
Honesty, I didn't know how crazy being ghosted could feel until I was ghosted.
Let's leave the social media proof out of it for a bit, talk about the psychological assessment you have to put yourself through.
You'll be like "Did I do something?
..Yeah, well they made their pick, so be it….but why?... You know what, screw them! I can totally do fine without them…Wait, was it cos of what I said?...Are they ok?..."
So many conversations will go on in your head almost at the same time.
This was exactly the case for me, but unlike Chris Evans, I wasn't ghosted to keep me safe.
Like I suspected, it had nothing to do with me, I'm a perfect human (wink).
However, my ghoster was going through a rough patch and decided "Hey, I'm going to take five, but let's not give anybody a heads up, and even when they text or call, let's ignore them".
You can imagine how offensive I thought this was.
I mean, it would probably be nothing if we didn't have any form of bond, if we were just acquaintances.
Wait, it brings me to wonder.
What if that's just what we are but I didn't catch the memo till now?
Well, whatever, I've been unghosted so I guess I don't have to keep having more maniac episodes.
